Back in december when I was planning my 2017 season with coach Blair I was not thinking about doing Slateman this year. I had said I wanted to come back and do it again at some point so we parked it for 2018.

Fast forward a few months to a phone call with my insurance provider Pedal Cover and after a brief chat I was registered to race this year!

For those who have not heard of Pedal Cover the are a provider of Bike insurance with a difference. The pedal cover package covers all your bikes and incorporates into a home insurance policy. By doing this they are able to save you loads of cash compared to traditional insurance products. The other difference is they cover you for training and racing home and abroad and also cover all your kit and gadgets in the policy. How many providers can provide so much for so little!

So back to the story… Darren the owner at pedal cover has been following me on social media for a while and noticed that I had not registered for Slateman. He called me up and asked me if I fancied doing the event again.

I was initially unsure as we had parked the idea but Darren went on to explain that Pedal Cover are the main sponsor of the event year and he really wanted me as one of the pedal cover customers to be part of the team as it’s the 2017 Pedal Cover Slateman Triathlon.

Slateman holds a special place in my heart as it’s the most beautiful event I did in 2016 so I agreed to take part and join up with the team.

As a team member I get to have a set of team clothing which is fab and is also worn but none other the Vikki Holland!!

Today is the eve of Slateman and as I write this I have done all my pre-race prep. We have registered and met up with Darren and team, been out for my usual pre race meal. All my kit is ready for the morning and nutrition has all be prepped and is ready to go.

Its now 10pm and time to get some sleep ready to race in the morning so wish me luck and look out for the race report coming soon but until then Ciao for now!!

I am Alex, a novice triathlete based in the south west of the UK. I have been dabbling with sprint triathlons since the end of 2014 and I have to admit its been great fun but a lot of hard work, harder than I thought it would have been if I am honest. In 2015 I met Blair Davies of Blair Davies Coaching and I told him about the passion I have found for the sport and also my goals for the future, one day I would love to race in a GB tri suit in an age group race.
